Show me the exposure!

Now that BlogBurst is live on publisher’s websites across the country, we updated the BlogBurst blogger workbench to provide you with a base set of reporting information on your blog’s syndication activity in BlogBurst.

To see the new Blogger reports, log into your account on BlogBurst and look for the “Reports” tab at the top of your workbench. The default “All BlogBurst Activity” report shows you headline impressions collected from all BlogBurst publisher sites. The “My Activity” report allows you to slice and dice your headline impressions, post views and unique visitor counts from across the network. The “Posts and Publishers” report shows a historical collection of your highest performing posts in the network.

What the heck is a Headline Impression?

Headline impressions represent the number of times one of your blog’s headlines display on any publisher site. See the SFGate.com travel section as an example of how BlogBurst blog headlines are displayed. In this case, SFGate.com shows 4 headlines from a collection of selected blogs in their BlogBurst travel channel. Any time your blog’s headline(s) shows up on a publisher page like this, we capture every pageview and count it as a headline impression for the post and roll up all headline impressions for your My Activity report.

So then what is a Post View

Post views represent that number of times someone clicked on a headline displayed on a publisher site to read the entire blog post.

Why don’t I see any reporting data?

For many BlogBurst bloggers in the network, your “My Activity” report will be blank. This simply means that your blog has not been picked up yet. This is a function of the publishers rolling out additional BlogBurst topic Channels (for example The Statesman here in Austin recently added a Golf channel to showcase golf blogs) and making sure that you are producing topically focused, original posts that warrant a pick up on their sites. Hang in there if you have not been picked up yet and keep on blogging. We hope to be able to show positive exposure for all bloggers in the network over time.

Some other random reporting notes:

  • While today’s blogger reports represent cumulative stats from all BlogBurst publishers, we are working on an update that will allow slicing by publisher pick up.
  • If you change the parameters of the “My Activity” report (headlines vs post views for example) in the pull down menus, don’t forget to click on the “Draw!” button to re-render the report with these new settings.

Love what I’m seeing so far.. to be picked up by the publishers, but I realise its early days, and they are a ton of travel blogs submitted to the network.

Is there someone I could email to get them to check out my blog - I just want to make sure that the blog is user friendly for publishers, i.e. images not too large etc.

My hit is not so high but my 3 blogs are getting some hits and I am happy with it. Well, it gives me a satisfaction that my blogs have enough quality to be noticed in the mainstream media. I guess things will get better as time goes by. I am happy for one thing. BlogBurst team, tried to maintain total quality in selecting blogs.

    Hi there,
I was pleased to see that my posts are being picked up, and I think it’s great. But I’d also like to be able to see which papers have been carrying the post. I’ve gone to all the sites and have not been able to find hide nor hair of anything I’ve written.

I’ve even done searchs using both the name of the posts and my name, and nothing. According to my reports I’m getting significant Headline Impressions but I can’t find them. A couple of them are reviews of material and I’d like to be able to tell my contacts who I’m doint the reviews for where they can find them.

Not only will they like that, but it will also increase my value as a reviewer to them. Do you have any hints on how I can track down my headlines at the various sites.

Again only a minor cavail and I think it’s a great thing you’re doing.

We are working on the ability to slice your report data by publisher and to show your largest pickups to date. The data is all recorded, just a matter of getting the updated report feature through the development process for the next release. We will have more details on this in the next few weeks.

Congratulations. I can see that you guys are getting bombarded with questions. Keep up the good work and I am sure soon there will be less of questions and more of ‘thank you’s. I guess, different bloggers had different ideas of this service. Perhaps a more detailed FAQ would help.

Thanks for explaining all these stats. Let the number crunching begin!

I already use Google Analytics on my site, and your reports now give me additional insight into what headlines are appealing. One thing that we can all learn from professinal editors is the art and science of describing a post with an engaging headline.

BTW, thank you for allowing me to participate in BlogBurst.

How frequently do you update your Search by Topic index? My blog hasn’t shown up after 3-4 days after validating the blog…

  10. 10 admin

Ro, you have hit on a problem that we are working on. We currently limit the browse-by-topic search results to 300 results, just to keep complexity down. We are now going beyond this limit in certain topic areas and some blogs are not showing up as a resuilt. This is something we are working to reconfigure now.
